A recent comment in the “Eat. Sleep. DSM.” Facebook group has led me to find some interesting things about alternators.
During the swapping of the bad alternator, Autozone did not have an exact replacement for mine, but respected the warranty. What they did have was an alternator for the automatic. Gee, I’ll just take that one, right? What are the differences? The manual-trans was rated for 60 amps … the automatic-trans was rated for 75. That is it. Everything else is the same. The mounting, the plug, the pulley, the cost. So that was a total victory on my part.
That’s not all friends! I said I had found some info from the FB group too. I haven’t confirmed these by installing them yet, but some say they have. Some one mentions using a 96 Saturn LC1′s alternator but I could not tell if they were referring to the 2g’s 420A or the 4g63. Also, some one mentioned using one from a 96-98 Galant. I will post some reference material on this once DSMTuners completes their amazing upgrade.
